I Laughed & Cries

I just got out of watching The Art Of Racing In The Pelting

A seriously emotional movie for me, every bit I had to accept my beloved family dog Rocky, put downwards on Mon, I knew I would weep watching this, and I did.

Information technology is non what yous think it is. It is not a racing pic, nor is information technology a children movie about a mischievous dog, its about the people and their relationships told through the eyes of the dog, voiced beautifully by Kevin Costner.

It has been 13 years since Milo Ventimiglia starred in Rocky Balbo, however every time he smiles that crooked smile, I'm reminded of Sly. Amanda Seyfried puts in a touching functioning whilst Martin Donovan is simply a guy you lot will hate.

This is a motion-picture show that is all heart, I laughed and cried watching information technology.

Truthful to source material; Very skillful movie

I read this book several years ago, and I remember crying like a baby in the Charlotte airdrome on a layover every bit I read the last ii chapters. Tears of sorrow combined with tears of joy streamed down my confront, and this piddling old lady came over to me and said, "Honey, are you ok?" I smiled and just said, "This book is so adept!"

Wink forward to the flick, and I literally almost started crying at the very outset scene. I hold the volume in high regard, and the opening shot of Enzo just brought back so many proficient memories of the book. As I watched the movie, I felt the producers/director stayed very true to the bulletin of the source material. Practise I know scene-by-scene if they stayed truthful? No, I practice not. Still, the overall beginning to end conveys the major events that happen, and without a doubt, information technology was such an incredible struggle not to flare-up into tears during the last moments of the movie. I was not alone in this as I heard many sniffles in the audition. It was about sold out on a Tuesday matinee!

The overall bulletin is perseverance, love, loyalty, and being true to yourself. The story of Enzo is a heartwarming story, and I can't recommend this book and film enough.

A box of tissues is required.

I didn't know annihilation about the picture before watching it. Equally soon every bit I saw it was most the life of a domestic dog 'Enzo', beautifully narrated by Kevin Costner by the way, I looked at my wife and told her I will probably cry with this movie. When it'southward about animals I have difficulties non to cry when something 'happens' to the animal, and that even though I know it'due south just a movie. And oh boy did I cry with this film, and so did my wife. At one point we were both balling without catastrophe. Just thinking about it makes me want to cry again, and that's a 24-hour interval later on. It's the kind of movie that reminds you previous dogs you endemic, or the dogs you lot have at this moment. I watched information technology with Lou, my lovely poodle that I rescued, sitting in my lap, and Jef, my Andalucian waterdog, cuddling next to me. You can't aid it to compare things from the moving-picture show with your actual life and pets. The story itself is not flawless, but it doesn't matter as it is too beautiful to stand withal at those petty imperfections. The human relationship and endless love between Milo Ventimiglia and his domestic dog Enzo is something a lot of dog owners will recognize. I dear my dogs and then much it hurts but thinking one day I will take to let them go, but knowing they had a good life eases the pain. The Art Of Racing In The Rain is a movie for animal lovers, a motion-picture show where you will need a box of tissues. I loved it, merely I wonder if I could watch it once again.

1st fourth dimension I ever felt the desire to write a flick review!

I accept never reviewed a movie before merely having seen this film on its opening day, not the kind of moving picture I'm normally attracted to (I booked it really for my wife equally it was our hymeneals anniversary yesterday) I was then surprised how much I really enjoyed it! Information technology has something for everyone to connect with. Beautifully put together and performed. But be warned, this is one moving movie. Even the toughest of guys will need the Kleenex nearby. My confront was wet! But as you have managed to hold back 1 tear-jerker response, along comes another. A real emotional roller-coaster which leaves yous in awe at the end. Best existent motion-picture show I've seen in a long fourth dimension. Kevin was amazing. So was Amanda and Milo. Real characters with existent feeling. Yous should all exist and so proud of this. My friend read the book and said it had the same touch on. Clearly you accept done the volume due justice. Just Fabulous!

Poignant & funny. This flick is a gift.

My thoughts:

The Art of Racing in the Rain is beautifully and sensitively directed by Simon Curtis, who deftly orchestrates the poignant moments with humour.

Milo Ventimiglia's "This is U.s." fans will recognize and love his Denny Swift; he was perfectly cast in this role.

I especially love how the film showed the development of Eve & Enzo's relationship.

Kevin Costner is non the showtime person I'd think of to exist the inner voice of a dog, but he does a swell chore.

This movie is a gift to anyone who'south ever endemic or loved a domestic dog.

Loved it, thank you for such an amazing film!

I knew I would love this flick, I've been a dog lover my whole life but this story wasn't just about a dog named Enzo but rather about life and all the ups and downs nosotros feel, the highs and lows, losing loved ones, hard relationships...and through it all dogs are ever in that location for us to provide comfort, a friendly bark, to lend a paw, to brand the states grin even on our toughest days. I'll never know whether they choice us or nosotros selection them it's only 1 of those things that's meant to exist and you find each other along the fashion. They don't alive as many years as we do, but they live a total life while they are hither and each one has a story. Thank you for telling Enzo'southward story.

Perfect (almost)

This was probably the almost perfect motion-picture show I accept ever seen. The story was excellent, the actors were perfect and the music was perfect, especially the John Fogerty song at the end. The just flaw I constitute was when the grandmother said in court she only said what the grandfather had told her to say. Wouldn't he accept been arrested at that point for witness tampering. Nonetheless, I rarely give a film or show a 10 without wondering later if I should accept. This one, I have no second thoughts.

Proficient Adaptation, But Watered Downwards

Warning: Spoilers

Warning: SPOILERS (for novel and movie)

Then, prior to seeing the picture, I read he book by Garth Stein. I adored the novel and even added it to my listing of all-time books. It's witty, deep, and emotionally powerful. The movie carried the same weight as the novel. It was mannerly, deplorable, and amusing the whole style through. The cinematography and editing was wonderful, with but minimal awkward cuts and continuities (funny enough, the canis familiaris had the least continuity errors). The casting and acting were also tremendous as the actors were perfect for their roles and held the same weight as how I pictured them in the book. I attribute of the production that really surprised me was the special effects, which were excellent. At that place were a few moments where in that location were CGI sequences due to hallucination and metaphorical double exposure of memories going through Enzo's mind. They looked excellent.

Still, I have gripes with the motion picture. I loved the book and expected the flick to omit parts of the book just they took out the wrong parts. A few minor examples are of Denny playing video games to get a feel for the racetracks before he actually drives on them, a scene where the Zebra was essentially molesting the other stuffed animals (it was changed to ripping them apart), and some aspects of Denny struggling with booze. These things were missed but do non brand or break the moving-picture show.

What makes or breaks the movie is removing the entire subplot of a semi-incestual faux accusation of child molestation. In the novel, Denny is going on a road trip across the country and kindly takes his wife's niece forth with him as she is going to a schoolhouse in the aforementioned direction. The niece is xv-years old and has a huge shell on Denny and mistakes his kindness for flirting. 1 nighttime while in a motel, she takes his clothes off while he'due south sleeping and gets naked herself. She attempts to have sex with him but he wakes upward before annihilation could happen, shuts it down, and yells at her. His scorning isn't necessarily besides harsh though. He has some sentiment in beingness common cold but she is so upset and hurt that she refuses to take the situation. Later on, later Denny's wife dies, the grandparents endeavor and gain custody of Denny'southward daughter. Presently, they notice out about the incident in the cabin, merely from the perspective of the niece, who spins information technology around to brand it seem similar Denny made moves on her. The grandparents use this as leverage and Denny is defendant of molesting a child, thus not being able to take custody of his kid. This subplot was replaced in the movie past Denny accidentally knocking the grandpa over and being sued for physical harassment. This change is so detrimental to the ability of the story, because in the novel, Denny tries to get to his wife'south funeral only is kicked out and forced to watch the ceremony from the top of a loma. He'southward seen equally a pedophile and treated similar a villain by many and he can't even attend his wife's funeral. At this point, Denny slips into an alcoholic depression and becomes very low and broken. This is much more powerful considering the circumstances and in the film, it seems similar Denny'southward depression is as significant equally a mood swing, especially as this moment in his life is rushed in the film and resolved very speedily. Changing this attribute of the film actually watered it down and fabricated it family unit-friendly, which means the rating is PG instead of PG-13 or R, which means more people tin can see it and more than coin tin exist made. It's a very commercialized or diluted decision and whether information technology was for money or non, it makes the story less critical and more standardized. This false accusation story isn't told entirely often and it'due south a difficult and deep problem to deal with. It should be perused and analyzed more than but instead of talking about hard topics or doing something different, we're given a situation where a man's life is almost ruined for accidentally knocking someone over. This makes the film lack substance and makes the book really of import. I understand that the film is an adaptation, a dissimilar account of the story, and a new perspective. So, of grade, at that place will be changes. I likewise understand that dealing with minors sexually in a film is not easy and that this topic may deter more people from seeing it. However, this change makes me meet the film as a adept flick and the book as an excellent book. If the filmmakers value profit and a wider audience over quality and critical themes, and then then be it; I'll stick with the volume.

Dog Owners, Bring Your Tissues

The Fine art of Racing in the Rain is one of those films that rips your heart out of your chest, dangles it in front of your face up, and ultimately gives information technology back to you. It is a very faithful adaptation of the original novel, with some changes that I personally idea were for the meliorate. Milo Ventimiglia and Kevin Costner bring their A games to this flick. You lot can experience a very stiff connexion betwixt their characters Denny and Enzo the dog respectively. Though this film isn't the nearly groundbreaking out there, it is a very well-made, heartfelt retelling of an incredibly heartwarming story.

Unproblematic, nevertheless sweet journey of self-discovery told through a unique perspective.

I hadn't read the book that it is based on, so only armed with the knowledge of a short synopsis, I really didn't know what to expect. Information technology was actually quite good.

I thought listening to Kevin Costner drone on for a couple hours equally a canis familiaris'south inner monologue would be tedious, but the nuggets of wisdom peppered with the occasional witticism provided ample entertainment. I often felt like I was watching the "Thoughts of Dog" Twitter business relationship played out in cinematic grade. I absolutely loved both Milo Ventimiglia and Amanda Seyfried in this. The girl was also played especially well by Ryan Kiera Armstrong. The relationships between themselves and likewise with Eve's (Seyfried) parents was possibly a bit banal at times, but overall was however believable and endearing - although I felt similar hitting the dad with my car at several points.

Later, I overheard several people tell the studio rep that they hadn't expected the picture to be a "tear-jerker", and the sobs coming from the admirer seated next to me seemed to confirm that. However, I found the story to not be overly sorrowful or sad, just inspirational. A guide, if you volition, for how to go an exemplary person shown through the filter of a dog's belief that by gaining this knowledge he'll exist reincarnated equally a human in his next life. (I know it sounds silly, only it was actually quite poignant.)

This is Us + The Dog who knows as well much

Enzo (Kevin Costner) is a sick old dog. He recounts his life with his race motorcar driver master Denny Swift (Milo Ventimiglia) who marries Eve (Amanda Seyfried) and they have a girl named Zoë. The family faces trials and tribulations with Eve's parents (Kathy Baker, Martin Donovan). This is a existent tear-jerker. It's basically Milo doing another 'This is United states of america'. The divergence is the constant narration from Costner as a dog. The thought is that the dog is following a Mongolian belief that dogs can reincarnate into human beings. That's where the author falters in logic and in drama. It would be much more than compelling to have the dog not understand as much as he understands in the movie. It would assist for Enzo to piece together the story without then much knowledge. The canis familiaris knows likewise much. Information technology'due south not logical and it detracts from the drama anyways. Otherwise, this is dandy for dog lovers and melodrama lovers alike.

Enzo Deserves Better Than This

I volition see just nearly whatever dog film that gets released, and that includes the manipulative ones. The Art of Racing in the Rain both nails the essential qualities of the best of canis familiaris movies, but information technology does veer into melodramatic blandness in the second half, but to be saved by brilliantly poignant final moments. One of the pic'due south main faults is that it never gets you to truly care about the dog's (Enzo) human relationship to his human companions, mostly because they are some of the worst owners in the history of cinema, which is where y'all find a good chunk of the manipulative aspect of the story. Only if there has always been perfect casting, it's Kevin Costner equally Enzo. Enzo is easily i of the best dogs in film, and that'due south worth watching.

Watch it for the good boy

Movies like these live or die by the dog. Luckily, this film has a terrific doggo at the centre of its story and is narrated perfectly by Kevin Costner. Enzo is by far the most interesting character in the movie and is just so dang adorable. You'll get your heartstrings tugged at frequently, merely most of it is pretty proficient drama and handled well. Needless to say in that location are a lot of cliches in a movie like this, but you can overlook them because it's such a sweet and heartfelt story.

Love and Loyalty of Mans All-time Friend

Loved this movie from the very start frame to the very last. If y'all love a good story of love and inspiration. Y'all volition love this film. Destined to be a truthful classic. Costner might exist the first to win a Oscar for his vox of Enzo. Bring some tissue a tearjerker of the extreme. Soundtrack was superb and perfect.

The humans let the team down

If yous're here for the beautiful doggo action (like I'm certain 99 out 100 watchers are), The Art of Racing in the Rain volition satisfy your needs for iv-legged goodness but in adapting Garth Stein'south source novel, proven screenwriter Marking Bomback and manager Simon Curtis struggle to engage with the man drama that eats away at far too much of this well-shot films run-time.

Racing is most certainly not a film for those that find dogs nothing more than than excrement producing nuisances but for canine fans, the glories of seeing photogenic young gilded pup Enzo go an even more adorable wise all-time friend to Milo Ventimiglia's far too kind to be realistic wannabe racing driver Denny, will be a sight for sore eyes, made even more appealing by the fact Enzo is here, through internal monologue, voiced by Mr. America himself Kevin Costner.

Without a shadow of a doubt, Enzo and Costner are the stars of the show, with the molding of existent life pups and Costner's instantly recognizable American drawl creating an extremely likable centrepiece for the flick, that sees Enzo fall into an unfortunate prepare of circumstances equally Denny faces battles in his personal life revolving around his union and dear with Amanda Seyfried'south Eve, his immature daughter Zoe (played by Ryan Kiera Armstrong) and his upwards and down relationship with Eve's unlikeable parents Maxwell and Trish, played generically past Martin Donovan and Kathy Baker.

You wish Bomback and Curtis had focused more of their tale around Enzo as you tin't help merely experience in adapting and changing Stein's source material, that human moments in the film feel both lethargic, boring and predictable with non a lot for us equally a viewer to latch onto whenever Enzo is pushed to the side and the generic and lifeless human being drama takes over the spotlight.

You're constantly feeling as though you should be caring more for the plight of Denny and his desire to be a expert husband, father and race car driver but when all is said and done, his simple and likable interactions with his best friend is what makes the moving picture shine in parts and would've made the film far more special had they been given more time to evolve and mature before our very eyes.

With the human being elements letting this flick downwardly, Racing feels very similar to recent doggy adventures such as A Domestic dog's Purpose and A Dog's Fashion Home, becoming a film with cute and heart-warming moments just i that can't assist overcome the fact information technology'due south likewise concerned about the generic people components to work as one cohesive and memorable whole.

Last Say -

Not without its moments and sure to please those seeking dog-centric goodness, The Fine art of Racing in the Pelting threatens at times to become something special but is held back often by a fairly lame plot and some even more boring humans.

A great movie for a contemptuous age.

Warning: Spoilers

In this time of snarkiness, Twitter wars and general miserableness betwixt people, in walks a pic brimming with decency nonetheless splendidly entertaining. Don't read reviews or recaps of this movie.....just go see information technology. Milo longlastname from This Is U.s. is very good, and Amanda Seyfried from the ABBA movies is cute as a button. Kathy Bakery from the Jesse Stone movies is just phenomenal. Her operation is the explosive that sends this motion picture into orbit.

The magic was not totally lost on me

I should preface this review past saying that,based on the rave reviews of friends (and strangers), I looked frontward to seeing this moving-picture show, and then, information technology has a faithful fan base who were of the opinion that the film full justice to the volume. The story was interesting (I was forewarned that tissues might be required). I truly believe that there is not some other histrion that better portrays the consummate, self-sacrificing devotion of a homo for a woman than does Milo Ventimiglia (I've believed in him since Jessie in GILMORE GIRLS). Amanda Seyfried is a harder sell for me, though, and then that prejudice may have soured the love story for me somewhat. I did, however, learn a lot almost racing and driving. The author certainly knew his stuff and was skillful in spinning it'due south metaphors. The love of a human being and the devotion of a dog were winsome. The treachery and heartbreak were moving, and then the magic was not totally lost on me. I requite this motion-picture show a 7 (good) out of 10, and if you demand farther encouragement to see it, my bookish friend has told me, "Nancy, I would give it 11/10! I went to see it again. For me, it was nigh Enzo, the dog who wanted to be "people" and the incredible bond between dogs and their families." And then, there you take it! {Drama}

Casablanca it is not, But...

... every now and so, whether we volition admit it or non, we all demand to watch such a film. If all you lot lookout are Christopher Nolan and Ingmar Bergman films, yous will somewhen discover yourself staring glassy eyed into space, drinking heavily, and wondering, in the words of the 70s band Chicago - "Does everyone really know what time it is?".

It's the story of Denny, an average Joe with a rather unique occupation - instructor of race machine driving and an aspiring race car driver himself. What makes the story even more unique is the viewpoint - a story told in flash back by Denny'southward canis familiaris Enzo as is he is dying of old age in Denny's artillery, starting from the time Denny adopted him as a puppy, to Denny's marriage to Eve, to the birth of their daughter, and everything that came in between and later on.

Kevin Costner does a good chore of narrating for Enzo. The pup makes the picture, and the actors don't try to go far the way. It is all most loyalty, decision, grieving, fear of abandonment, and friendship. But I do disagree with some reviewers here. I don't think I'd permit a kid under ten see this. Information technology gets pretty heavy at points. And a stuffed zebra has a scene that is every bit surreal as the Twilight Zone episode I saw as a kid with a bunch of mannequins calling out "Marsha!" to a terrorized woman locked in a department shop at night. I saw that over fifty years ago and it still scares me. But I digress.

I'd recommend this when you lot just want a sentry a motion picture with admirable characters acting admirably in response to the slings and arrows of outrageous fortune. But at that place is one hissable villain but to give the motion-picture show a little balance. I'd recommend it.

New favorite movie

This is seriously my new favorite movie. Y'all know when you read a book and you picture the whole story? This flick is exactly like the volume and the acting, especially the dog, was so well done. To encounter a domestic dog act and evidence as much emotions every bit this one did blew my heed. The story is amazing and this picture show the best I've seen in a while.

Anyways jokes aside this is the perfect domestic dog and story driven movie! Across well written throughout with clever dialogue. You'll laugh, cry a lot, fifty-fifty say wtf, and ane thing yous won't practise is experience gypped at all. This is better than any canis familiaris picture you could ever come across and among one of the best sport stories always! I don't actually read much but I am tempted to find an audible version of the source novel or something like, it's a best seller subsequently all.

Recommended Viewing for the Entire Family...and the Canis familiaris!!!

Warning: Spoilers

"The Fine art of Racing in the Rain" is worth the price of admission for the voice of Kevin Costner, speaking the imagined dialogue of the adorable dog Enzo. It does not take long for the audience to come to accept Enzo equally a full-fledged people person, due to Costner sensitive readings.

While the focus of the film on the sport of car racing may be somewhat of a turnoff to audiences, the scenes themselves were fabricated credible, specially by the actor playing the role of Denny. The character may take been a petty too perfect both on and off the race track. But the actor was completely convincing as a race car driver.

The romantic side of the film was nicely portrayed in the relationship of Denny and his wife Eve. While the grandfather was the most malevolent of the characters, he was balanced past the kind grandmother. Her star turn in the courtroom may take been the all-time scene in the motion-picture show.

But Oscar for this film goes to Enzo and the mellifluous audio of Costner's phonation that brings to life the nobility of the animal and how there volition be a special place in sky (or globe) for his gentle soul.
